The Old Schoolhouse is just a short walk from the River Tweed which features some of the best salmon fishing in Europe as well as some fine riverside walks. Stop by at the warm and welcoming Fishermans Arms pub (a short walk from our B&B) for some excellent food and refreshment.

In nearby Kelso you’ll find a popular racecourse, a characterful cobbled town centre stocked with a wide variety of small shops as well as the historic abbey. On the outskirts of Kelso, the historic and grand Floors Castle is a must. Nestled by the River Tweed, Floors is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. Within the grounds you will also find a garden centre, coffee shop and a restaurant.

High-quality golf courses abound in our area with the Hirsel, Kelso and Roxburghe courses nearby. Enquire about the Freedom of the Fairways Pass for keen golfers offering access to 21 courses throughout the Scottish Borders.

There are many walks available locally and in the surrounding area for ramblers of all ages and abilities. Throughout the region you'll find well-signposted, well-documented walks, as well as plenty of rewards on offer if you decide to stray off the beaten track. A number of national walking routes also pass through the area.

The Old Schoolhouse is an ideal location for exploring the Scottish Borders and Northumberland with the whole of the region including Edinburgh not much more than one hour's drive away. For more detailed information on the area, look at VisitScottishBorders.
